WHAT MORE WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW??

Frequently Asked Questions

As you may have never heard of MARSTA Goals®, you might want to know a little more....

What is MARSTA®?

MARSTA® is a practical framework for creating and sustaining momentum. It gives your team a shared way to turn business priorities into action, work through what delivery requires and adapt as you go. We use it with you through three connected stages: Design, Act and Sustain.

What kinds of situations do you work on?

Perhaps you have a growth ambition but no clear route forward. A capable team whose strengths aren’t being fully used. Or an important project that keeps slipping behind everyday demands. Our current focus is on leadership and performance, putting strategy into practice, and the work involved in achieving and maintaining recognised standards.

We already use other frameworks. Why would we need MARSTA®?

Your existing frameworks, assessments and plans give you valuable information. MARSTA® provides a shared structure for putting it to work: connecting those insights with decisions, responsibilities, resources and regular review. You can build on what you already use while developing how your team thinks, acts, develops and learns together.

What do you mean by momentum?

Progress that you can keep building on. That means moving towards something that matters, creating the capacity to do the work and learning from what happens - this makes that progress sustainable. A busy team isn’t necessarily making progress. We look at whether its effort is moving the business forward and what will enable that to continue.

What would working with us actually involve?

We start with establishing your real priority and agree what you want to achieve. Then we work with the relevant people to build a practical plan (that recognises the strengths and resources that you already have access to: what needs to happen, who will take responsibility), what resources are needed and how you’ll build in agility and recognise progress. Ongoing support can include regular check-ins to address obstacles, review results and adjust when complexity arises.

What will we come away with?

A practical plan for an agreed priority, with clear responsibilities, milestones, resource needs and a way to review progress. We can train you in the methodology or on a short or long term basis, depending on your needs. Through implementation, your team also develops a repeatable way to make decisions, address difficulties and put learning into practice so that the value can extend beyond any initial consultancy.

Our people are already busy. How will we make time for this?

That’s part of the work. We look at current commitments, competing priorities and the capacity your plan actually needs. That may mean changing the sequence, stopping something or bringing in additional resources. We agree the time commitment upfront and, where practical, use existing working groups for progress reviews.

We’re working towards a standard or accreditation - can MARSTA® help with that?

Whether it’s B Corp, ISO or Investors in People, understanding the technical requirements is only part of the work. People need time, resources and clear responsibilities to put them into practice alongside their busy day-to-day roles and responsibilities.

MARSTA® brings that work into a practical plan that enables active implementation. We work alongside your standards specialists, keeping people and activities connected as you prepare for assessment and embed new ways of working.

The aim is to make those practices part of everyday business, so progress continues beyond achieving recognition.

Can we start with one team or one priority?

Yes. One meaningful priority is a practical place to start. It gives you a manageable scope and an opportunity to see how MARSTA® works in your organisation and see it's potential for other projects

How will we know whether it’s working?

We agree what progress should look like before starting and these will depend on your priorities, resources and timeframe. We review those measures alongside what the team is learning and what needs to change next.

Can you work alongside our existing advisers?

Yes. MARSTA® can provide a shared structure for turning specialist recommendations into coordinated work. We have a number of consultants who are experienced at using MARSTA® who will work with your team on the people, priorities, resources and follow-through needed to put MARSTA® into practice.

Can our own people learn to use MARSTA®?

Yes. We can develop the capability of managers or internal facilitators to use MARSTA® within your organisation. The aim is for your team to keep applying the approach, reviewing progress and adapting as new priorities emerge.

How much does it cost, and how long does it take?

This depends on the project priority, the people involved and the level of support you need. You might start with a focused working session, choose a supported implementation period or develop the approach across several teams. We agree the scope, timing, team commitment and fee before you decide to go ahead.

How do we get started?

Bring us something you want to make happen or something that isn’t moving as you expected. We’ll talk through the situation, what you’ve already tried and what you need next, then establish whether working together makes sense.
